JBBBS COMMUNITY SOCIAL WORKER
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston (Newton based), a not for profit social service agency provides the highest quality volunteer mentoring to children and adults with disabilities. The position is located on the campus of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Boston (JCC).
BROAD FUNCTION
Responsible for the screening, matching and supervision of community based volunteers, children, parent(s) or guardian(s). Reporting to the Vice President of Program Services, provide short-term counseling, family advocacy and case management.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview parent/guardian and child to complete assessment evaluation and determine the need and appropriateness of request for service.
- Interview and prepare assessment evaluation for prospective volunteers and determine appropriateness to serve as a JBBBS volunteer.
- Prepare parent/guardian, child and volunteer for matching and assume responsibility for the supervision of each matched "Big and Little".
- Initiate match goals and utilize appropriate communal public and private resources for parent/guardian and child when clinically indicated.
- Follow a uniform casework recording procedure.
- Maintain monthly statistics of active and inactive cases utilizing the agency’s work flow management system (AIM)
- Perform other duties at the discretion of the Vice President of Program Services or President/CEO.
- One week night of work is necessary (appointments) and occasional weekends (agency Special Events).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited college or university preferably with a Master of Social Work (MSW).
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience in direct clinical services / case management with children and/or adolescents.
- Strong skills in MS Office Suite (WORD, EXCEL, Email) or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills
- Comfortable in a team work environment a collaborative colleague
- Licensed Driver with car necessary
This position is a 35 hour per week position (7 hours paid and 1 hour unpaid for lunch). JBBBS offers a competitive salary based upon qualifications and experience and a comprehensive benefit package which includes eligibility for medical and dental insurance after 60 days of employment, 20 days vacation on an annual basis, life insurance and a 403(b) plan. There is also an onsite health center (no charge) at the Newton JCC.
