About our Volunteers | FAQs |

Big Brothers and Big Sisters come from a variety of backgrounds. They are usually 21 and older and want to be a friend to a child. Some are recent college graduates; others have been working for many years; some are single and others are married; some have children, others have not, and some are entering retirement. What they all have in common is they want to be a friend to a child.

To make sure that we find the best match for your child, our social workers get to know each volunteer by:

Discussing volunteers background
• Talking about interests and hobbies
Going over volunteers expectations
of the program
Checking references
Conducting a background check

Together with your social worker, you make the decision of who will be the best match for your child. Once your child has been matched, our social workers carefully supervise the match. They are always available to answer questions and support the match and your family.
