Ways to Volunteer
| FAQs |
JBBBS In The Community
JBBBS works with you to connect you with a child, living in your area, who shares your interests, hobbies, and pastimes. We will accompany you during your initial meeting with your Little and provide ongoing support throughout the duration of your match.
- Bigs plan two to four outings per month with their Little.
- Getting together is flexible and usually takes place on weekends for two to four hours at a time mutually convenient for the Big and Little.
- It's really simple. You and your Little decided what you’d like to do on your outing a shared interest, toss a ball, watching a movie, share a pizza. All you need to do is have fun with a great kid.
- You have the opportunity to participate in Jewish holiday celebrations offered throughout the year sponsored by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters.
- Many times there are tickets available to major sporting events and theatre productions in and around Boston.
- To establish a long lasting relationship we suggest a minimum one-year commitment.
JBBBS In School
As part of our Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters In School program, volunteers are matched in one-to-one relationships with Littles attending nearby elementary and middle schools. Our school program is ideal for individuals in the corporate workplace and college students looking to be a Big Brother Big Sister during school hours.
- Bigs and Littles meet at the school for approximately one hour during the Little’s lunchtime - typically between the hours of 11:30 and 1:30.
- Bigs have the flexibility to meet with their Little two to four times a month throughout the duration of the school year.
- Bigs and Littles plan activities that both find enjoyable - playing board games, shooting hoops, reading, doing arts and crafts, making memory books.
JBBBS In Groups
The Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters In Groups program offers volunteers an opportunity to join with their Littles in fun group activities. For both, it’s a way to enjoy a one-to-one connection while at the same time socializing with other Bigs and Littles in a group. And because the group activities are planned by JBBBS, you spend less time thinking of things to do or when to do them and more time enjoying your Little’s company.
- All group activities are preplanned.
- Activities usually take place twice per month on Sunday afternoons.
- On average, each activity lasts approximately two to four hours.
- Bigs drive their Little to and from the activity.
- Bigs and Littles have the opportunity to participate in programs and Jewish holiday celebrations offered throughout the year sponsored by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters.
- Activity costs are subsidized by JBBBS; therefore, volunteers are only asked to contribute to come of the costs.
