Ways to Volunteer
| FAQs |
What
does it take to be a Volunteer?

All it takes is having fun and sharing time. Many ordinary activities
become extraordinary when shared with a child or an adult with a disability
taking a walk, riding a bike, watching a movie or just eating lunch
together! Youll be having fun while showing a friend you care.
Who are our Little Brothers, Little Sisters and their families?

Our Little Brothers and Little Sisters range in age from 6-18 years old.
They can be:

Children
from Single Parent Families
Children from families new to the United
States
Children with disablities
Children
in other special circumstances

Although
the children come from diverse backgrounds, they all have one thing in
common: they all want to share a little magic with a Big Brother or Big
Sister. The children live in communities throughout Greater Boston and
well make sure to match you with a child who lives near you.
Who are our Friends with disabilities?

Our Friends are adults with mild disabilities who do many things very
well! They tell jokes and appreciate art, drama or sports. Their disabilities
dont affect their ability to have fun with a friend like you.
How do I become a volunteer?

Submit an Application: Submit an online
application and we will contact you within the next few days.

Schedule an Interview: A member of
our professional staff will contact you to set up a time to meet and discuss
your background, interests and hobbies. We will also ask you about what
you are looking for in your match with a potential "Little."

Become a "Big": After you
have successfully completed the above three steps, a member of our professional
staff will contact you to tell you about a potential Little who shares
common interests, hobbies and lives nearby. If you agree its
time to set a match date! On your match day, you and a staff member will
visit your new Littles home to get acquainted. You are now a Big
and ready to have fun! From then on, we provide support for you during
the length of your match.
What types of activities do we share together?

Perhaps you are both movie buffs, or you enjoy working on art projects
or exploring nature. Whatever your interests, you can share them together.
We help you discover things to do and places to go around town. We send
out a weekly email highlighting happenings and events around Boston and
Massachusetts. From time to time, we also have tickets to the theater,
movies, museums and sporting events. We plan a number of group events
throughout the year, like Game Day, Chanukah parties, Passover Interactive
Seders and bowling outings. We want to make it as easy as we can for you
to do fun things together!
What happens when I have questions?

Your social worker is always available to answer any of your questions
just call or drop an email!
