2017 Gala Honoree Betsy Jacobs

Betsy’s connection with Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters is lengthy and strong. Her father-in-law, Cy, was a Little Brother in 1920, the very early days of the organization. Betsy served as the first headshot-for-printwoman President of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters and was a founding director of the Endowment Board, on which she remains active. Betsy also serves on the Scholarship Committee.

Betsy’s volunteer work began at Combined Jewish Philanthropies in its Young Women’s Division in the late 1970s.  She served on many CJP committees, including the CJP Board of Directors and its Executive Committee.  As the first chair of the CJP Committee on Services for People with Disabilities, Betsy was instrumental in initiating new programs and organizations to serve
both adults and children.. She has received CJP’s Young Leadership Award; the Bureau of Jewish Education’s Keter Torah Award; and has been honored by CHAI, a program of Jewish Family and Children’s Service and by Gateways: Access to Jewish Education.

Since 2006, Betsy has served as JCC Greater Boston’s Chief Operating Officer with a mandate to grow the reach and effectiveness of the JCC. Betsy spent most of her career in publishing at Little, Brown and Company, where she rose through the marketing ranks to become General Manager of the College Text Division.  She also worked in Development for Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

Betsy is a graduate of Tufts University and earned a Master’s Degree at Boston University. A Brookline resident and committed member of Temple Ohabei Shalom, Betsy is married to Eddie and has two grown children.
