Do you know somebody who’d make a great volunteer? Maybe even somebody who’d make a great Friend to Barry? If so, we want to hear from you!
Barry is 63. He lives in Newton, and he’s been waiting for about a year for a match in our Friend 2 Friend Community Program, which serves adults who have disabilities. Barry has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. And while ASD has made it challenging for him to strike up friendships on his own, he’s hopeful that through involvement in Friend 2 Friend, he’ll ultimately be able to connect with someone fabulous around shared hobbies and interests.
Barry is Jewish and Judaism is important to him. He attends services at a local temple almost every week. In addition, during the week, he attends a day program through which he volunteers his time at Meals on Wheels. (He’s a part of the cleaning crew there, and he enjoys it for the opportunity to stay busy and help others.)
Barry’s ideal friend: Someone patient, organized and about his age. He’d like to catch up around meals, movies and bowling. Barry notes that having a plan and a schedule for his day is important to him, so he’d appreciate a Friend who is prompt and schedule-oriented, too. Jewish volunteer preferred.
