In a two-part installment, we asked long-time Friend 2 Friend participant, Lauren, and her match, Cindy, what they’ve learned from one another in their 12 years of (real) friendship. Lauren’s response appears first. Cindy’s is up next. Look for it on the blog this Wednesday!

Says Lauren, “I’ve been participating in the Friend 2 Friend program, on and off, for over 20 years. I have been with Cindy since 2002. I tell jokes/puns to annoy her. I tease her about using (colorful) language. She teaches me funny, silly sayings. We know where to find the cheap eats. We can just be ourselves in front of each other. In the beginning, it was more like a volunteer/match relationship. Now we are friends like everyone else.”

Meaningful, lasting friendships are at the heart of what Friend 2 Friend seeks to provide its participants and volunteers: an opportunity to encounter someone through the program that goes on to become an integral part of the other’s life.
