Introducing “Mentoring Monday.” Now through the Rodman Ride this September, we’re sharing real stories (and real photos) from real volunteers and real participants in our programs. They cut right to the heart of how come mentoring-friendship matters, how come your contributions to our Ride team, which help to fund some of our important work, matters.
This week, meet Carol and Peter, a long-time match in JBBBS’ Friend 2 Friend Program. Peter reports that Carol is “such a good friend,” someone with whom he has “so much fun.” And Carol summarizes their relationship this way:
“It is a very simple. We simply get together, enjoy each other’s company, and have fun! We naturally bring out the fun in each other…really focus on and delight in one another’s goodness. Personally, when I spend an evening with Peter, I’m reminded of the Bible verse, “It is better to give than to receive.” I can’t help but think, though, that I always receive way more than I give. The few hours I give are nothing compared to what I receive in my friendship with Peter. We are a great match. That’s what these programs – that’s what life – is all about: Unconditional friendship, acceptance…celebrating one another for who they are and what they bring.”
