This Black Friday, between standing in line and scoring the buys, you can make a difference. It takes about five minutes to complete an application to volunteer, and a member of our Engagement team will be in touch right after the holiday to answer your questions and discuss next steps in the process. It’s really that easy.
And it really matters.
Here’s why: Right now, kids are waiting on mentors in our Children’s Program. Adults are eagerly anticipating a match in Friend 2 Friend, our track for people with disabilities. What follows is the story of one such adult who’s waiting. Perhaps even on you.
Helen is 27. She lives in Framingham with her parents. During the day, Helen – who has a developmental disability – attends a vocational program, where she says she’s made a few friends. Still, she notes, she doesn’t have much social interaction outside of it. She’s approached Friend 2 Friend for help to grow her network.
Helen has been waiting now for over nine months owing to few inquiries from volunteers in her geography.
Helen is an active person: She loves hockey, dance and gymnastics. She’s close to her parents and enjoys cooking and baking with her mom. She’s also a movie buff.
Helen’s ideal volunteer: Someone about her age with common interests.
