A Friendship Program for Adults with Disabilities

At Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS), the Friend 2 Friend (F2F) program connects adults with disabilities to caring volunteer Friends who show up consistently and help build connection, confidence, and belonging. Every match is thoughtfully guided by our professional team so participants and families can feel confident the relationship is safe, meaningful, and well-supported.
Meaningful Friendships That Reduce Isolation
F2F creates consistent, one-to-one friendships that help adults with disabilities feel more connected and less alone. Friends spend time together doing everyday activities, building trust, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
While some programs focus on activities, Friend 2 Friend is centered on the relationship itself because it is that connection that creates lasting impact.

Compare Our Two Program Options
F2F offers two program options: the M.A.G.I.C. (Monthly Activity Group In the Community) Group Friendship Program and the Community One-to-One Friendship Program. Both programs focus on friendship first.

What to Expect
Friendships grow through consistency, shared experiences, and support.
Participants and families can expect:
- A commitment of at least one year
- Regular, consistent connection
- Thoughtful matches based on personality and interests
- Ongoing guidance and support from JBBBS staff
- A focus on friendship, not therapy or goal-setting
Is This the Right Fit?
F2F is for adults (18+) with disabilities who are looking for meaningful social connection.
This program may be a strong match if the participant:
- Is interested in building a friendship with a volunteer
- Can communicate and engage in a social relationship
- Is able to participate with a level of independence
- Has not had a hospitalization within the past 6 months
- For M.A.G.I.C.: can travel independently to group activities
This program may not be appropriate for individuals seeking clinical or therapeutic services.
If you are unsure whether this program is right for you, we are happy to talk through your situation.

Support Every Step of the Way
Every friendship is supported by trained, experienced staff. Our team brings deep experience supporting individuals with disabilities and works closely with participants, families, and volunteers to ensure each match is a strong fit.
Our staff provides:
- Careful matching based on interests and compatibility
- Regular check-ins and guidance
- Support navigating questions or challenges
- Partnership with families and caregivers
While these are not therapeutic relationships, they are thoughtfully supported to help each friendship succeed.
Welcoming Participants of All Backgrounds
You do not need to be Jewish to participate or volunteer.
JBBBS is guided by Jewish values of community, inclusion, and caring for others. We welcome participants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
The Impact of Friendship

Less loneliness and greater social connection
