Frequently Asked Questions

Friend 2 Friend FAQ

  • What is Friend 2 Friend?

Friend 2 Friend (F2F) is a friendship program that matches adults with disabilities with volunteer Friends who share similar interests. Together, they build meaningful one-to-one relationships, enjoy activities in the community, and create lasting connections that reduce isolation and foster a sense of belonging.

  • Who is eligible to participate in Friend 2 Friend?

Friend 2 Friend is open to adults with disabilities who are seeking friendship and social connection, as well as adults who are interested in volunteering as a Friend.

  • What kinds of activities do Friends do together?

Every friendship is unique. Friends might go out for coffee, attend community events, take walks, explore local attractions, enjoy hobbies together, or participate in JBBBS-sponsored activities. We encourage matches to pursue activities that reflect their shared interests.

  • How often do Friends meet?

Friends typically meet one to two times each month, depending on their schedules and interests. We ask volunteers to commit to at least one visit each month, with many matches choosing to spend additional time together.

  • How long do Friend matches typically last?

We ask Friends to make at least a one-year commitment so they have time to build a meaningful relationship. Many Friend matches continue well beyond that, lasting for years as friendships naturally grow and evolve.

  • Is there a cost to participate?

There is no cost to participate in Friend 2 Friend. During outings, each Friend is typically responsible for paying for their own meals, admission fees, or other activity expenses. Many matches also enjoy free or low-cost activities in the community.

  • Do volunteers need a car?

Not necessarily. While transportation can be helpful, many matches use public transportation, rideshare services, family support, or participate in activities that do not require a car. We work with each match to find arrangements that work best for them.

  • How are Friends matched?

Our team takes a personalized approach to matching. We consider interests, personalities, preferences, location, communication styles, and goals to create friendships with the greatest potential for success.

  • Do I need to be Jewish to participate?

No. Friend 2 Friend welcomes participants and volunteers of all backgrounds. Guided by Jewish values and enriched by Jewish experiences, we are committed to creating an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome.

  • Can I participate if I have never worked with adults with disabilities before?

Absolutely. No prior experience is required. We provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to help volunteers feel confident and prepared.

  • What support does JBBBS provide to participants and volunteers?

Our professional staff provides training, resources, regular check-ins, and ongoing support throughout the friendship. We are available to answer questions, help navigate challenges, and ensure that both participants and volunteers have a positive experience.

  • What happens if a match isn't the right fit?

What happens if a match isn't the right fit?

  • What makes Friend 2 Friend different from other volunteer opportunities?

Friend 2 Friend is centered on building genuine, lasting relationships. Rather than focusing on a specific task or event, volunteers have the opportunity to form meaningful one-to-one friendships that make a lasting impact on both participants and volunteers alike.

Mentorship FAQ
