BIG Brunch Honoree Victor Nussbaum

November 5, 2024

JBBBS is thrilled to honor four incredible JBBBS volunteers with the Chaverut Award at this year’s Big Brunch on November 17. These four volunteers truly exemplify the word chaverut which is Hebrew for friendship.

Victor Nussbaum is one of this year’s honorees and we had the pleasure to recently ask him a few questions about his volunteer experience.

Why did you decide to first volunteer with JBBBS?

I was looking for a connection to the Boston Jewish community and JBBBS seemed like it might be a good fit for me.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with JBBBS?

It is amazing that after four decades of volunteering as a Big, I am always excited about the next time I get together with my little.

What are your favorite activities to do with your match?

There are many “favorites”. The throwback video game parlor, with its pinball machines, skee ball, Ms. Pacman, Nintendo games and more is probably at the top of the list. Whale watching, hikes, cruising the Natick Mall, birthday celebration meals, and snow tubing are also so much fun.

What is your favorite memory of your JBBBS volunteer experience?

The overall favorite is recalling the so many wonderful conversations I have with my littles. I now know many jokes, so many details about the latest online games, and gained valuable insights into the joys and challenges in life that Littles experience.

What have you learned from volunteering with JBBBS?

I learned that Littles have remarkable resilience and my life has been enhanced by volunteering.

What are three words you would use to describe your JBBBS volunteer experience?

Joyful, friendship, fun!

What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with JBBBS?

Volunteering at JBBBS is the most rewarding volunteer experience that will change lives. Not only will you make a positive impact in the life of your match, but your own life will also be enriched beyond any measure you may anticipate.

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting out their volunteer journey with JBBBS?

Get ready to be supported by a very caring group of JBBBS professionals, have fun, and have more friends in your life.

What first inspired you to get involved with JBBBS? I’ve always admired the mission of mentorship and the stability and companionship it provides. JBBBS embodies that so perfectly. I had heard wonderful things about the agency, and a serendipitous professional interaction with the amazing Judy Shankman solidified my decision to get involved as a volunteer.… The post Welcoming JBBBS’ New Board Chair, Evan Grossman  appeared first on Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Boston.
