Our Children’s Programs rely on new and ongoing support from volunteers. Right now, we are actively seeking Big Brothers and Sisters for children in:
The Community Program
So called because Big and Little Brothers and Sisters catch up in the community, one-to-one, about twice per month. When they get together, Big and Little Brothers and Sisters participate in whatever activities they mutually enjoy, subject to a parent or guardian’s approval: biking, hiking, bowling, crafting. Big Brothers and Sisters foot the bill for outings. The agency helps defray cost through agency-organized match activities and its Pick of the Month Program. Big Brothers and Sisters generally provide transportation using their own vehicle or mass transit. Volunteers commit to spend at least one year matched to a Little Brother or Sister.
The School Program
Big and Little Brothers and Sisters catch up on the campus of the Little Brother or Sister’s participating elementary or middle school, about once per week, during the academic year. (They generally have no contact outside of school.) When they get together, they enjoy lunch, conversation, board games, books, crafts and sports. JBBBS has organized school programs in Newton, Needham and Waltham. Volunteers commit to spend at least 10 months matched to a Little Brother or Sister.
