Big Brunch Honoree Stacey Buckley

JBBBS is thrilled to honor four incredible JBBBS volunteers with the Chaverut Award at this year’s Big Brunch on October 26. These four volunteers truly exemplify the word chaverut which is Hebrew for friendship.

Stacey Buckley is one of this year’s honorees and we had the pleasure to recently ask her a few questions about her volunteer experience.

Why did you decide to first volunteer with JBBBS?

I had been looking for some volunteer work to do with my extra time during the quarantine phase of Covid, and happened to find an ad to be a Big with JBBBS. The idea of getting to be a mentor to someone in need seemed like it would be really fulfilling for me.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with JBBBS?

The relationship I’ve formed with my little! I love getting to spend time with her, whether we have a fun activity planned or just grab breakfast, I love hearing about her life, thoughts/feelings and accomplishments.

What are your favorite activities to do with your match?

We love to go to this little coffee/breakfast shop in the town where she lives, to just sit down and chat about life for a while. We also love going to the farm nearby and doing their seasonal fruit/flower picking.

What is your favorite memory of your JBBBS volunteer experience?

The first time my Little asked me for a hug after our hang out. It was really sweet and showed me she felt happy and safe with me!

What have you learned from volunteering with JBBBS?

I would say I’ve learned how fulfilling it can be to be there for someone else.

What are three words you would use to describe your JBBBS volunteer experience?

Wholesome, Fulfilling, Exciting

What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with JBBBS?

I would tell them how happy I am that I decided to volunteer and how much it has meant to me to be a Big.

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting out their volunteer journey with JBBBS?

Not to worry so much about planning big, exciting events, that just spending time together doing simple things can be just as exciting.
